It was on my first winter trip in 2007 that I had the fortunate opportunity to purchase my first 40 foot container of antique furniture from Thailand, after discovering an entire village in northern Thailand outside of Chiang Mai that catered to western tourists/business folk with high quality, antique wood furniture from all over Southeast Asia.
I naturally fell in love with this well crafted, hand made Thai furniture from the early 1900's because of its amazing functionality, design, and strength: No one would ever build furniture this well ever again! I was preparing to build my dream home outside of Asheville, NC and I wanted to fill it with the finest gold teak art deco thai furniture I could find; so, I did!! The seed had sprouted!
Soon after that, in that same northern Thai village, I discovered Thai furniture being hand crafted from 100-year-old ox carts and recycled/reclaimed wood from Thai teak houses. The teak ox carts had served as farm equipment and transportation in Thailand before cars existed over 100 years ago! One of the greatest things about this experience was that this was work I could be passionate about, just like the asian massage I have been practicing now since 1991.
The rare, beautiful teak and redwood furniture was all pretty amazing, so, I quickly realized, since I was bringing over a container of furniture for my new future home, I might as well bring extra furniture back to try to sell on the side because I had extra room in my container! So, I did! I soon discovered that folks liked my furniture around my home in Asheville, NC and that there is a market for it. Just Think, Thai Teak was born!!
The company is still in its early, experimental stage and I have now brought in a total of 4 full 40 foot containers of furniture from Thailand consisting of rare Thai redwood and teak wood furniture! I specialize in art deco Thai gold teak wood furniture because thats my favorite and the most well made for the money! It's also quite rare stuff nowadays; as it's increasingly difficult to get out of Thailand and becoming harder to find and more expensive to obtain!
What you see on my website currently is what I have available today, and I'm not sure if I will continue this experiment or bring in anymore? However, what I do know is that the furniture you see here is all original, hand made, of very high quality, and carefully hand picked by me over months at a time while visiting Thailand! I spend months scouring the warehouses for the finest, most unusual pieces! What I return with is furniture that is simply awesome: functional home furnishings at very reasonable prices! I hope you will find something you like here on my site. Please contact me with questions about this very special furniture from a by gone era, when furniture was made by hand, and made to last from some of the finest wood in the world! I look forward to working with you soon to share this unique furniture, available in very limited quanities only!
